DelPHE Project
What did we learn ?
1. In the testing and evaluation done during the lifetime of the project, we know that women gain knowledge through use of the kits. When the project has ended, we will want to see if that knowledge gain leads to action, with positive outcomes.
2. We have learned once more that communication is multi-directional. We have seen this particularly in the enthusiastic reception of COMBACCS, which allows dialogue between a group of people and a distance expert - as an opportunity for dialogue, for questions and concerns to be raised and addressed.
3. We have learned a lot from systematic testing and evaluation of knowledge kits. Strength of the project is the combination of quantitative measures and qualitative insights. These data tell us about, for example, the clarity, usefulness, and effectiveness of the materials in enabling WSHG members to access new knowledge.
4. We have learned that different tools have different uses: ice breaker, transfer of pre-designed content, recap and reinforcement, reference, interaction.
5. There is a thirst for knowledge and information, and for advice from experts, among WSHG members in all five states.
6. Learning engages the emotions. Knowledge is not simply a question of cognition. Our evaluation and observation shows that the tools developed by the project go beyond the cognitive level to the affective.
7. We have learned that knowledge does not simply flow from person to person; it is produced and enhanced through interaction – what others would call the ‘co-production of knowledge’.
8. This project has shown, the impact comes when we have a good tool, with appropriate content, made available to users in an effective manner.
9. Reactions from participants in this workshop have shown us that there is potential for the effective use of these tools, these knowledge kits, in other sectors and in other parts of India.
10. Strong interest has been expressed in their potential application in the agricultural sector more broadly, and in the context of existing and upcoming projects in the north-east and other regions.
